Adjunct Professor Bob Munn presented the ACCI’s
ongoing research into acid resistance of concretes in two technical
papers at the recent international conference on the technology
and application of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs),
in May in Las Vegas.
With research increasingly focusing on sustainable development
and the reduction of CO2 emissions, the future use of SCMs in concrete
applications seems bright, according to conference participants.
Researchers are also increasingly investigating new types of SCM’s
including: fluidized bed ash, metakaolins, steel slag and natural
pozzolans - all byproducts of industrial waste.
