What is Lean Construction?

The ACCI is establishing a Lean Construction Group (LCG) with support from the Lean Construction Institute in the US, to introduce the concepts of lean thinking to the Australian construction sector. Lean construction is a new way to manage construction.
The objective, principles and techniques of lean construction, taken together, form the basis for a new project delivery process. From roots in the Toyota Production System, this new way of designing and making capital facilities makes possible significant improvements on complex, uncertain and quick projects.

Lean Construction in Australia

The ACCI sponsored a Lean Construction Workshop in November 2000. International experts from the USA conducted the highly successful workshop, and as a result two Australian companies are now looking to implement Lean Production principles across their business.

Interest in Lean Construction has continued to grow, and the ACCI will be running another Workshop in 2002. For further information on this please contact Marton Marosszeky at the ACCI.
