| Experience |
35 years as a civil engineer, specialising in building and civil construction materials and currently Chief Engineer with Boral Construction Materials. Extensive experience with materials, premixed concrete and concrete product manufacture in Australia, South East Asia, UK and USA, including design and supervision for concrete to numerous major construction projects.
Responsible for co-ordination of research activities for Boral Construction Materials and leader of the Technology Research Group at ACCI.
Past Chairman of the IEAust National Committee for Concrete Engineering and past State President and Councillor of the Concrete Institute of Australia. Former Chairman of NRMCA National Technical Committee and member of Australian Standards Committees for concrete structures, cement and aggregates. |
| Research Projects and Achievements |
Attracted and supervised research projects of value in excess of $1.5 million include pre-competitive and post-competitive research into a range of building materials and construction products. Most research projects have been supported by DIER IR&D Grants.
Authored and presented over 80 technical papers on the subject of high performance concretes, durability, serviceability, by product utilisation, aggregates, chemical admixtures, pozzolans and structural design at major conferences in Australia and overseas.
At various times, visiting lecturer on concrete technology, materials, mix design, pumping and special concretes at UTS, Monash, UNSW and TAFE. |
Commercial Experience |
Consulting at the senior level to construction material suppliers, feasibility studies undertaken and operationsreviews implemented. Expert in concrete technology and concrete construction techniques.
Undertaken condition surveys for marine industrial, building and residential projects and for roads and airport pavements. Advised on repairs necessary to ensure performance for intended service life.
Management, technical, sales and plant design for flyash extraction, processing and marketing companies in UK, South East Asia and Australia.
Laboratory management, development of new products, new tests, innovation and problem solving.
Experienced in quality systems, design and implementation in the building industry. Also experienced in supply chain management plant and system design to optimise outcomes for client and producer.
Expert witness for commercial disputes and for submissions to public enquiries. Author of practical technical specifications and contributor to reference texts.
