On Tuesday 29 April 2003 , Prof Nash Dawood (Director of the Center for Construction Innovation Research at the University of Teeside) Dr Jennifer Whyte (a Research Fellow at the Business School, Imperial College London) and Peter Hill (Executive Officer and Secretary of the Simulation Industry Association of Australia) addressed the question of how VR and 3D technologies are creating new business models in the building and construction sector.
The workshop described research on the emerging uses of virtual reality in design, construction and management of the built environment. In the construction sector researchers have looked at using VR not only as presentation tools but as a universal interface to all construction applications. Emerging business drivers and strategies were discussed in the light of the literature on industrial innovation and experience in other sectors where these technologies are already in use. Energetic discussion followed the presentations.
